Week 8 Update

We are now halfway through the first term of this academic year, with so much learning done and so much still to do, time is flying by. Don’t forget, next Friday is our school Halloween party, there will be lots of games, candy, and spooky movies. I hope your costumes are ready!

To the end of our IPC unit ‘Temples Tombs, and Treasures,’ as an Exit Point students have been making an Ancient Egyptian diorama. Each student’s diorama has been designed and made by themselves and shows a different aspect of our learning this term. These will be finished off next week, with a short explanation, explaining what the children have learnt. The children, also, got to check out their mummified tomatoes and see how they turned out.

Also, we are coming to the end of our nonfiction unit on non-chronological reports, today the children wrote up their own report independently and on Monday they will edit and improve their work, before starting a poetry unit.

In maths, the children showed a lot of Growth Mindset as we tackled short division all week, they found it hard at times, but didn’t give up. Today I allowed the students to be the teacher to see if they could help each other and ended it with a division card game.

That’s all for this week, have a great weekend!

Week 7 Update

Hello everyone!

Firstly, a request from me to aid our Exit Points for our Temples, Tombs, and Treasures Unit, I kindly ask if each child could bring in a shoebox or cardboard box similar to that size for arts and crafts project that would be very helpful. The children are already aware of this and I will also bring in extra just in case, thank you!

Mr. Morgan put together two excellent lessons around Ancient Sumeria, exploring a Sumerian Tomb and using a variety of sources to find out more this allowed the children to compare and contrast this with Ancient Egyptians. We are now coming to the end of our Temples, Tombs, and Treasures Unit and will be working on our Exit Point for most of next week before moving on to a new Unit.

In maths, the children have been working on different written methods to solve multiplication problems and they will move on to division next week.

For our English lessons, the children continued their work around non-chronological reports they have used the Superheroes that they created to start writing their own reports this will continue into next week.

Week 6 Update

Hello everyone!

Another busy week in Mr. Dunn and Mr. Morgan’s class with lots of fun learning and exploring doing on.

In English, this week we continued our nonfiction workaround Hawkboy, we looked at different conjunctions and using brackets in our writing. The students had great fun creating their own superheroes, they made a mask and choose their own powers and weaknesses, ready to write about next week.

For IPC, Mr. Morgan put together a wonderful lesson exploring Ancient Egyptian mummification the students looked at the process as well as mummifying a tomato. This week they have also looked journey to the afterlife and finished off research on different Pharaohs.

In maths, we have continued our work on calculation, looking at subtraction and multi-step addition and subtraction word problems. Next week, we will be moving on to solving multiplication problems.

Week 5 Update

Hello everyone!

Welcome back and I hope everyone had an enjoyable Chuseok break! Now the students are back at the hard work and new challenges.

In maths, this week the students have started work on calculation, looking at column addition and subtraction, we used counters to help show regrouping.

For English, we have started looking at nonfiction, we are learning a new text with actions that will help us throughout the unit. So far, we have also come up with the actions, created a glossary, identified features, and wrote a script for a role play.

During IPC, this week the students had great fun with Mr. Morgan looking at how the pyramids were made before making their own. They also have researched different Pharaohs, looking at their achievements, how they changed Ancient Egypt and what they were like as a ruler.

That’s all for this week, have a great weekend everyone!

Week 4 Update

Hello everyone!

Happy Chuseok, all the children looked amazing in their hanboks today as we spent the afternoon celebrating the Chuseok holiday. There is no school next week and I hope that everyone has an enjoyable week off.

In maths, this week, we moved on to shapes, the children looked at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, drew 2D and made 3D shapes using nets.

We have come to the end of our fiction unit and the children spent most of the week planning, writing and editing their suspense stories. I have been very impressed with their creative writing have they have done their best to include a variety of literary devices.

During our IPC lessons, the children started a project around Ancient Egyptian Daily Life, they researched various aspects of how they lived and are adding information and pictures to a large poster. We also looked at hieroglyphics, how this worked and made their own messages.

That’s all for this week, see you after Chuseok break.

Lois Lee’s Update for Week 3

Hello everyone!

This week’s core value was confidence, Mr. Green asked each class to choose someone to explain what we learnt this week in the assembly. Lois did such a wonderfully detailed job that I thought I would use it for my update (edited slightly by me).

Firstly, this week, we got a new teacher! Mr Morgan taught us Maths and English on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In math, we learnt to read and write time to the minute. We also learnt to convert time from the 12-hour clock to the 24-hour clock.

In English, we wrote the first, second, third, and fourth paragraphs for our suspense story. As a class, we wrote one together before going creating one independently. Mr. Dunn was super impressed and was on the edge of his seat when reading these.

In IPC, Mr. Dunn set up a tomb for us so we could be archeologists and find an artifact, we were able to break open clay and discover something related to our Ancient Egypt IPC unit ‘Temples, Tombs and Treasures’. I found a bird, it was a lot of fun.

In PSHE, we learnt about how we learn, growth mindset will help, always try your best.

In PE, we did soccer, practiced dribbling, and did mini-matches.

Week 2 Update

Hello everyone

Happy Friday, another week exciting week completed. Thank you, again to everyone that came on Thursday, I hope it was informative and helpful.

In English, this week, the students have continued to learn the story and have been looking at ways to improve their story writing and create an engaging suspense story. To help the students, they role-played a suspense scene by hiding in the classroom and thought carefully about the five senses. Also, we went for a walk around the reservoir to generate ideas for a setting description.

In maths, this week, we continued our work around place value. The students worked on rounding numbers and counting forwards and backward through zero, the students played games with number lines toopractice.

That’s all for this week, have a great weekend everyone!

Week 1 update

Hello everyone!

Firstly, a quick reminder on Thursday 2nd September at 11:00 – 11:30 there will be a curriculum meeting to discuss what to expect throughout the year, I look forward to seeing you then.

Mr. Dunn’s class have had a fantastic first full week at school, with lots of fun and hard work in every subject. The students have made an excellent start and showing off their previous knowledge and building upon this. Homework has gone home today, any questions or concerns about this, please contact me or feel free to ask in person on Thursday.

In English, I am following the Talk4Writing scheme as this really helps children with their writing of fiction and nonfiction. This means that the children need to learn a short story with actions and complete work around the text.

In maths, we have done a lot of work around place value, identifying the value of each digit, ordering, and comparing numbers.

That’s all for this week, have a great weekend and I look forward to seeing you all Thursday.

A Great Start to the Year.

Hello Everyone and Happy Friday!

Mr. Dunn has been super impressed with his new class and I am looking forward to the rest of the year! We spent this short week getting to know each other, having some fun, making some class rules, and setting some goals for the year. Homework will be given out on next Friday and Tuesday and Friday is PE so please make sure your child is wearing appropriate kit.

We also spent time doing a maths quiz and writing a story so I can see where the students are with their learning. They worked very hard and showed great resilience. To end the week the students were sent the challenge of building a bridge in teams, they worked very well together.

That’s all for this week, have a great weekend everyone.
