Term 1 – Week 6

It felt like forever since there had been a full week of school with Chuseok and the typhoon interruptions we have had so far, but it was good to have the students in for all the school days this week. The students have also been working very hard to make sure that we are up to date with our learning.

This week in Math, we looked at calculations and especially multiplying and dividing by the positive and negative powers of 10. The learners also looked at rounding to specific significant figures and degrees of accuracy. We also worked with ordering, multiplying and dividing decimals. Our year 9’s also got the opportunity to work out compound percentages and upper and lower bonds.

This week, in English, we started out non-fiction unit ‘Unusual Education.’ The students compared and contrasted two extracts about different styles of school, they added the information to Venn diagrams. Also, we looked at persuasive techniques and the students started a projected based around the school uniform debate.

In Science, we did some practical experimentation on the properties of metals and started looking at the reactivity of metals. The learners looked at some different samples of metals, identified them on the periodic table and did tests for, malleability, conduction of heat and electricity and if they are sonorous.

In History, we looked at the manufacturing process of modern technology products and how competition has good and bad consequences for the different role players in the manufacturing process, which will lead us to have a look at the historical treatment of workers during the industrial revolution.

For Design, Technology and Innovation, the learners looked at different aspects that are considered when designing products and how a perceptual map can be used to compare products using two criteria.

For IMYC: PE, learners practiced passing skills in football and evaluated how a competition aspect affected their performance when doing a task.

In ICT, learners prepared a script and recorded an information video about the positive and negative aspects of online competition.

That is all for this week, I hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.
