Y3-4 Art – Term 2 Week 7

Y3-4 students recently wrapped up their stone age poster project in pairs and have now transitioned into a new theme: sculpture art.

First of all we discussed about what sculpture art is and whether the students had ever encountered a sculpture before. We also utilized a PowerPoint presentation to explore the various materials that can be used to create sculptures, including clay, paper, wire, and found objects.

Following this, I showed the students a range of sculpture examples and discussed what stood out to them. In the coming week, we will be using clay to create our own sculptures based on the topic of “cat.” To prepare, the kids looked at some images of cat sculptures created by other artists and have since started designing their own.

Y5-6 Art – Term 2 Week 7

Choi So Young, a Korean artist, is famous for her colorful and stunning artwork created using old denim jeans. Her pieces are known for their intricate designs and attention to detail, and have been showcased in galleries worldwide. Our IPC theme for this project is ‘Building in a village’, and we will follow Choi So Young’s footsteps to create our artwork.

During our art lesson, we explored Choi So Young’s work and identified the various colors and patterns she uses. We also discussed denim jeans and their production process, with the children feeling the fabric and describing its texture. Through this, we discovered how Choi So Young turns everyday items into art.

This denim collage project will be a collaborative effort between pairs of children. They will choose a piece of Choi So Young’s artwork that they like and begin sketching. Next week, they will use denim to create their own building. The children are thrilled to work on this project and can’t wait to bring their ideas to life.

Y7-9 Art – Term 2 Week 7

This week in art class, we learned about the life of Georges Seurat, a famous artist known for his unique pointillism technique. We talked about his background, where he grew up, where he went to school, and what inspired him to become an artist.

We also delved deeper into the pointillism technique, explaining how artists use small dots of color to create a larger image. The kids were fascinated by this method and we looked at some of Seurat’s famous works to see how he used it.

To further their understanding, I gave the kids some questions to make their own PPT presentations, such as who Georges Seurat was, his most famous painting, information about his famous works, how he used color in his paintings, the key characteristics of pointillism, how his work influenced other artists, and interesting facts.

Overall, it was an engaging and educational week, and I’m excited to see what the kids come up with in their presentations.

FS1-2 Art – Term 2 Week 6

FS1-2 children worked on creating origami boats and waves, which was a fun and engaging activity that allowed the children to use their creativity and imagination.

During the lesson, the children were taught how to fold paper into a boat shape using the art of origami. They also learned how to make waves using simple techniques with blue-colored paper.

Not only did this activity allow the children to express themselves creatively, it also helped to develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and problem-solving abilities. They had to pay attention to the instructions and work carefully to create their boats and waves, which required focus and patience.

Overall, it was a great learning experience for all of the children. They were engaged and enthusiastic throughout the lesson, and I was impressed by their enthusiasm and creativity.

The Y5-6 students learned about the Collagraph printing process and were given the opportunity to create their own printing plates using various materials such as cardboard, string, and foam. They were able to experiment with different textures and shapes to create unique designs that could be used for printing.

After creating their printing plates, the children used them to make multiple prints on paper. They then completed their prints with paints, adding color and texture to their artwork.
