We are trying to organise Student-Led Clubs to start this Friday.
Here is a sign-up sheet for all the different clubs that are available.
When we see how many students sign-up for different clubs we will decide how they will work and how the buses will run. Some clubs may happen at break time or lunchtime, and others will be after school depending on numbers. We will let you know the final arrangements before Friday.
Everyone is very excited about the Residential Trip next week. Mr Dunn’s class and Mr de Klerk’s class will be spending three days at Unmoon Recreational Forest. We will be leaving on Wednesday and coming back on Friday. On the trip students will be hiking, rock climbing, visiting a temple and lots of other fun activities. Students will learn Confidence, Responsibility and Environmental Awareness.
For students going on the trip, there will be a meeting for students on Monday afternoon where we will give some final instructions and packing lists.
One problem that parents could help with is how to get bags to school on Wednesday. If possible, it would really help if bags could be delivered to school on Tuesday or Wednesday morning. It is possible to bring your bag on the normal school bus but it might get a bit crowded if everyone does this!
Mindfulness Club
Here is a schedule for Mindfulness Club with some items the students will need to bring.
Staying in a Breaktime
Please remember that any student who needs to stay inside during break time and or lunchtime needs to have their parents inform the Admin Office by phone or email.
We really like all our students to go outside during break and lunch as it benefits their learning and concentration. Many students staying inside also causes problems for the Admin Office and teachers, cutting into the time they have to prepare for lessons. It also makes supervising all students more difficult.
We will respect all parent requests for students to stay inside but we also ask that you are considerate and aware of the difficulties it can cause.
HFS Sports Day will be held on Friday 26th May (Week 7) at school (Hanmaeum Centre)
Further details to follow.
Upper School Residential Trip
We are very happy that all the students in Mr. Dunn’s and Mr. de Klerk’s classes have signed up to go on the Residential Trip in Week 3 (Wednesday 26th April – Friday 28th April).
Everyone is really looking forward to this wonderful event.
Further information will be shared via Google Slides so keep checking for updates.

After-school activities start in Week 2 so the bus will follow the No-Club Schedule in Week 1.
Residential Trip
During the holidays we emailed students and parents in Mr Dunn’s and Mr de Klerk’s classes about the Residential Trip in Week 3.
There will be two information meetings in Week 1:
Monday 10th April at 2.30 pm
Tuesday 11th April at 5.30 pm

Please use this form to lets us know which meeting you wish to attend and what questions you would like answered.
Cambridge Exams
In Week 2 students in Mrs Leah’s, Mr Dunn’s and Mr de Klerk’s classes will be taking Cambridge exams. These exams will be taken during school time and be finished by the end of Week 2.
Why are we doing these exams?
At HFS we believe exams are important because:
It allows teachers to see what a student is capable of and where they need more help
It allows the school to see how we compare to international standards
Students need to practice and become familiar with taking exams; they will probably have many exams to do in the future so is a good idea to get used to doing them.
We also believe:
While exams are important, the stress they can cause should be kept to a minimum
Cramming and last-minute revision are not useful
Students should be supported to approach exams confidently with a Growth Mindset
Every student deserves the chance to succeed so students so will only take exams if the school thinks they will benefit from doing so. Students in the same class may take different exams based on their abilities.
At school, we should do everything we can to keep our students feeling good about the process of taking exams
What can we do at home?
Let us know if you are going to be absent in Week 2 so will reschedule the exams
Get plenty of sleep and have a good breakfast
Support students in feeling confident and relaxed about their exams
The results of the exams will be shared with parents as part of Term 3 Parent-Teacher Meetings and in student reports.

The Korean government announced that starting next Monday, masks will no longer be required in public transport. Masks are no more mandated on the school bus.
We will be taking class and individual photographs next Thursday (16th March). We would like all students to be wearing red or blue school shirts on this day.
New School Site Update
On Tuesday a group of students from our Student Council had the opportunity to visit the new school site and they were very excited about what they saw.
Currently, a design team has been chosen and design work is in progress. As soon as we have the design finalised we will be sharing these with the community. On Friday this week, the design team will be visiting some other schools in our area to get some ideas.
Everything related to the relocation is on track and students and staff are becoming more and more excited about the move.
Updated COVID-19 Protocols
In line with the further relaxation of Covid-19 rules by the Ministry of Education, we would like to share the following information with the parent community.
Temperature Checks – Starting from Monday 13 March, there will be no more temperature checks either before the students board the school bus or before they go into the Cafeteria before lunch
Masks – Students will still be required to wear masks on the bus
7-day self-isolation – This is still required for those who catch COVID-19
Please help us by remaining to be vigilant of COVID-19 symptoms at home.
The school is also aware that the Korean government is currently considering further relaxing the Covid-19 rules. As soon as the government makes an announcement, we will reflect it in our Covid-19 protocol and share it with our parent community.
2023/24 School Calendar
Here is the School Calendar for next year. The only change from the draft published last week is that the mid-term break in term 1 has been moved back one week to align with other schools in the area.
Parent Consultation Group
The school would like to invite all interested parents to the first meeting of the new Parent Consultation Group on Thursday 23rd March at 5.30 pm.
The purpose of this group is to:
To ensure smooth and effective communication amongst all stakeholders in the school
To help the school community acquire an improved understanding of the operation of the school
To more readily listen to the views and opinions of the school community and reflect them in the management of the school
The agenda for our first meeting will be:
Discussion of how this group will operate
Update on the relocation process to the new school
Update on the proposal to change the school name
Sharing some of the feedback we received from our CIS Evaluation
General plans for Term 3 and the 2023/24 academic year

Relocation Update
Just a quick update on the process of relocation to our new site. We are currently in the process of receiving bids from design teams, with the winning bid to be decided this week. After that, the design team will be working with the school to finalise plans. We are also hoping to take a group of students from our Student Council to visit the new site very soon. Building work will be starting soon and we are still on track to move into our new site at the beginning of 2024. Exciting times!
