Newsletter 7B

Posted in - Latest News

As promised in the last newsletter, this notice is an update containing some of the information shared at last night’s Parent’s Consultation.

Morning Bells & Holidays

As we move towards the end of year tardiness and early leavers have historically become more and more prevalent. This year has been no different.

We would like to remind all parents that the school day begins at 8:45 when teachers collect their class for morning roll. Students not in class by this time will marked as late.

Though we are sympathetic to those who have to travel overseas, we ask that families make every provision to ensure their children are in school on designated school days. There are numerous studies linking absenteeism and low performance and we want to provide our students with every opportunity to be successful.

Student and Parent Policy Review

If you haven’t already done so, we ask that you please make an effort to complete our student and parent policy review surveys. This information is used to drive operational and policy changes which does directly affect everyone in our community.

School Closure

Just a reminder that HFS will be closed on June 7th.  Click here for more information.

The New Principal

We had huge response to our advert for a new Principal with over 80 applicants, most of whom were highly qualified for the position. The successful candidate was exemplary in his application and the recruiting panel was unanimous in their decision to offer him the position.

Last night I had the opportunity to introduce our new Principal, Mr Sameem Khan. Mr Khan joins us from Doha where he is currently the Primary Head in a school of about 1200 students.  His wealth of experience, having worked in education for the last 17 years including 13 years in various leadership roles predominantly in the U.K., makes him a strong addition to the HFS team and we are confident his leadership will lead to an even more successful 2016-17 year!

Leavers

Sadly we have a number of fantastic teachers leaving our ranks as well (despite our efforts to retain them).

  • In the EYC Ms Goode will be leaving, hoping to pursue her goal of teaching and travelling to see the world. Next year she aims to work in South America.
  • In year 3-4 Mr Kearney will be moving on. He is planning to work with students older than those currently at HFS.
  • In year 5-6 Ms Heaslip will be making a return to Ireland.
  • Our tireless PE teacher, Ms Van Helden, whom we have also known has a passion for adventure and travel has accepted a job in Morocco.
  • Finally, Mr Jones will also be leaving at the end of this year. He will be returning home to Canada.

While it is true that HFS is sad to see these individuals leave, as they are all fantastic in their own way, we do thank them for their service, all the improvements they have made to our school and community and wish them the best of luck in the future. May they all go on to do great things!
