Newsletter Term 3 Week 2

Posted in - Latest News

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter. It has been very quiet at HFS this week with our older students enjoying the residential trip to Tongyeong. The accompanying teachers have kept the school updated at all times and all concerned have had a wonderful trip so far. I am sure all families are looking forward to welcoming the students home today!

We will be posting plenty of photographs and comments regarding the trip on our new Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/hyundaiforeignschool/, so please LIKE this page and visit regularly next week for further updates.

Changes to the monitoring of the ambient air quality

As a result of increased concerns regarding air quality and levels of particulate matter (PM), the Korean Education Ministry announced on April 27th that they have revised their “response manual for schools, to deal with particulate matter” and will introduce more stringent guidelines in the near future.  According to the revised manual, when the concentration of PM in the air, as monitored by Air Korea of the Ministry of Environment, is measured to be “bad” (PM 10µm (size), the bad category is from 81-150, PM 2.5µm, the bad category is from 51-100), kindergartens, primary and middle schools will ensure that their students will stay indoors.

HFS will implement this new policy on air quality in line with the Korean Education Ministry’s  guidelines.  The school will constantly monitor the ambient air quality index made available by Air Korea under the Korean Ministry of Environment on their website and restrict outside access accordingly, to ensure the safest possible educational environment for our students.

Criteria of PM Concentration in the Air Announced by Air Korea of the Ministry of Environment

PM Level Good Average Bad Very Bad
PM 10 0-30 31-80 81-150 Over 150
PM 2.5 0-15 16-50 51-100 101

Cambridge Checkpoint assessments

Congratulations to our Year 6 students on completing these assessments. The answer scripts have now been dispatched to England for marking, and we do expect these results before the end of this term. The results will be passed on to all families upon receipt, and we hope we will have them in time to include in the end-of-year reports.
