Term 2 Week 6 Newsletter

Posted in - Latest News

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter. I was very pleased to join with the PTA today and discuss some future events at HFS, and also how, as a school, we can ensure effective communication with our families. We are actively exploring additional ways to maintain effective channels of communication and how these can can be further strengthened by using social media such as Facebook and Naver, and by development of the school website, in particular the use of the class pages.

HFS appreciates the work done by our current PTA, and I want to continue this mutually supportive relationship for the new academic year, so I do hope there will be some further volunteers to take over these roles at the appropriate time. It would also be very much appreciated if one, or more, of our Korean parents could join the PTA as this would help us greatly in strengthening our ties with the local community, as this is something HFS is very keen to do.

Parent / Teacher Conferences Wednesday 8th March, 0830 onwards

As mentioned in previous newsletters, the format for the Parent / Teacher conferences (PTC’s) will differ from last term. School will be closed for lessons all day allowing us to proved extended appointments for each family with the class teacher. Each appointment will be twenty minutes, and the class teacher will allocate the time of these appointments to each student in the class. Today, each child (the oldest child if there are siblings at school) will bring home a letter detailing the appointment time for each teacher, with a reply slip that must be completed and returned to the class teacher, whether the parents can attend or not. We do hope that as many parents or guardians will attend this PTC, as essentially it is an oral report of each child’s progress this term. It is also preferable if students attend these conferences to participate in the discussion.

Parent Information Session Wednesday 29th March 1430 School Canteen

As we are all very much aware, HHI is experiencing great change at the moment, which inevitably affects HFS as an academic institution and as a community. It is my view however, that such change can and should be used as a positive opportunity to drive the next phase of development at HFS. How we intend to do this will be the focus of this meeting. Whilst there will be a brief overview of our recent, successful re-accreditation CIS visit, the primary purpose of the meeting will be to describe and explain the HFS organisation and academic provision for 2017 / 18 including: –

  • allocation of teachers and classes
  • new curriculum provision for Primary and Secondary
  • new assessment and tracking model
  • opportunities and advantages of the changes at HFS
All families are warmly invited to attend this information session.

Some gentle reminders

Please note a change of date for the Year 2 trip. The class will now join Year 3 and 4 for their trip on Tuesday 21st March.

It would benefit school greatly in returning lost items to individuals if clothing and other equipment is clearly labeled with the child’s name.

HFS endeavours to encourage healthy eating amongst our students and we would be happy if parents could support this. Children should not bring candy to school unless for a special occasion, and chewing gum is strictly forbidden.

Thank you very much for your support with these matters, enjoy the weekend.

Kind regards,
Tony Blacklock

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter.

Assessment Weeks at HFS

As you will have noted from the Term Two overview, the next two weeks are our Assessment weeks. All students will have some form of assessment, with most having assessments in Mathematics, reading and writing. These assessments are to provide class teachers with an understanding of each student’s current level of attainment, against which progress can be measured throughout the coming academic year, and provide additional information for the planning of the necessary support or enrichment activities for each student. A summary of the assessment results will be provided on the Term Two interim report, and can be discussed in further detail at the Parent – Teacher conferences on Wednesday 8th March. Class assessment timetables can be found on the school website class pages. If you have any questions please contact your child’s class teacher.

During this time, please ensure that children get plenty of rest and relaxation, and avoid the temptation for cramming or revision sessions, or asking tutors to set additional work, as this will often have detrimental effects on student performance at this late stage.

May 1st 2017, Labour Day holiday

A note for your calendars regarding the Labour Day holiday as this was not previously included on the HFS calendar. HFS will be closed from the end of school on Friday 28th April and reopen at 0840 on Monday 8th May. Please contact the school office with any queries at admin@hyundaiforeignschool.com.

Please do enjoy a relaxing weekend.

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter. I hope you enjoyed happy and fun-filled New Year celebrations with family and friends. The coming weeks will be very busy at HFS with assessments (more details of these will be included in next week’s newsletter), Book Week, International Week and Parent / Teacher conferences all before the end of March. Please do check the weekly newsletter and your child’s class page on the website for details of all upcoming events

School library

We have many new and exciting books in the school library. We have created new book sections including a Senior Fiction area for Year 7-9 students and a Sophisticated Picture Book section for Year 5-9 students. We also have a variety of new titles throughout the library including picture books for junior students. We hope you enjoy reading and sharing these books at home with your children. Please do ask your child’s class teacher if you would like any help or advice about supporting reading at home.

Packed lunches

A polite reminder that lunches and snacks must be packed in plastic, shatter-proof containers to ensure the safety of all our students. Thank you for your help with this.

Please do enjoy a relaxing weekend.
