Kindness Market

The Kindness market raised 850,000won, which has been donated to the Busan Orphanage.

Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way.

Possible Name Change

Online Survey

The school is considering a name change and we would like to hear your opinions.

The names being considered include:

  • Ulsan International School
  • International School of Ulsan
  • Hyundai International School

We feel that these names more accurately reflect who we are and the type of education we aim to provide. A new name will also raise the profile of the school and help us to attract more students.

  • ‘International’ is better than ‘Foreign’ as it better reflects the type of education we offer and who can attend our school. We are an international school, not a school exclusively for foreigners.
  • We will always have a strong association with Hyundai Heavy Industries but replacing ‘Hyundai’ with ‘Ulsan’ in our name better reflects the fact that not only students associated with HHI attend our school.
  • Any change of name will not affect the legal status of the school. We will still only be permitted to enrol students holding foreign passports or Korean passport holders who have lived abroad for over 3 years
  • Any change of name will not affect the type of education the school aims to provide and the way it in operates

Any change of name will only happen after a process of consultation with all our stakeholders and would probably coincide with the move to the new school site. We would appreciate you taking a moment to complete this short survey Even if you don’t have a strong opinion we would appreciate you completing the survey as this is useful information. Thank you in advance.

Winter Show

The Winter Show will be on Wednesday 14th December at 2 pm in the school hall.

We were planning on using the auditorium on the first floor of the Hanmaeum Center but the process of booking and securing time for the students to practice was proving difficult. Last year’s show in our hall was a great success and we are hoping to recreate that atmosphere this year.

Kindness Market

Thank you to everyone who supported our Kindness Market by donating items, helping out on Friday or spending some money. The event was a great success and we raised a lot of money for the Busan Orphanage. Well done to Mrs Sim and her Kindness Club for organising such a great event.

Class Trips

I had a great time with Mrs McClellan’s class at Ulsan Grand Park on Wednesday. Please remember that all the other classes have trips in Week 13. You should find details on the Class Pages.

Relocation Update

Everyone at HFS is very excited about the move to our new school site which will open in January 2024.

Here are some more details…

  • The Hanmaeum Center will close in late 2023. The Ulsan University Medical School will take over the building to use as a training centre
  • HFS will continue to operate at the Hanmaeum Center until the end of Term 1 of the school year 2023/24 (next school year)
  • Renovations to the Hanmaeum Center will not begin until we have moved out
  • Renovations to the new school site will begin soon and will include the creation of an Astroturf sports area, basketball court and outdoor play areas. The new school site will be a significant improvement to our current facilities with bigger classrooms and more learning spaces
  • The school will relocate to the new site during the winter holiday of the 2023/24 school year
  • HFS will reopen at the new site for Term 2 of the 2023/24 school year
  • The school calendar for 2023/24 is currently being drafted and will include a longer winter break to allow time for the school to relocate. No learning time will be lost and the total number of days at school for students will be the same as in previous years
  • We will keep you informed as the renovation work progresses and more details are decided.

COVID-19 Protocols

Please remember that the school needs to be informed of any positive COVID-19 test results. We are here to help and advise you about the right procedures to follow.

Congratulations to Mrs Jiyu

Congratulations to Mrs Jiyu who give birth to a healthy baby boy on Thursday. Mrs Jiyu will be on maternity leave until September.

Kindness Market

Posted in - Latest News

Just a quick reminder that Mrs Sim’s Kindness Club market will be held this Friday from 2.30 pm – 3.30 pm in the school hall. Thank you so much for all of your kind donations so far. It is very much appreciated. The children are very excited about the market. Parents are invited to come to school and do some shopping. There is a wide selection of children’s clothes and toys as well as some items for adults. All the proceeds will go to the Busan Orphanage.

We have had some parents say they want to donate baked items for the market. This will absolutely go down a treat! If you are able to bake or donate some cookies or snacks please bring them along by Friday by 2:30 pm. All food should not contain nuts.

It would be greatly appreciated if your child could bring a large bag to put their purchases in on Friday. This will make it easier to take their purchases home.

Some students have asked how much money they should bring. Mrs suggests 10,000- 15,000 won. Most things will be cheaply priced however there are larger items which will be priced at 3,000-5,000.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday!

Sorry, we forgot to add this to the last Newsletter!

Mrs Sim’s Kindness club are going to be holding a Kindness Market on Friday 18th November from 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

The money made from the market will be donated to Busan Namgwang Orphanage.

We are looking for students and parents to donate the following

  1. Toys
  2. Stationery
  3. Clothes
  4. Baked Goods
  5. Cartons of Juice
  6. Candy

Toys and clothes should be in good condition. As the orphanage only accepts money donations, things donated to the school will be sold at the market to other students/parents in the school and the money raised will be donated to the orphanage.

You may send things in from now up until Monday 14th November. The kindness club will need some time to get everything organised.
Parents are welcome to come along and shop! If you would like to help set things up, Mrs Sim would love some helping hands. Please email her at leighemmasim@hyundaiforeignschool.com.
It should be a great little afternoon!
