It has been such a lovely first week back after the winter break, we welcome two new students Ayaan and Laura, who both settled in very well and made an excellent start. Below is a link to this term’s curriculum overview so you can see what your child will be covering this term.
In maths, we the students looked at place value, this time focusing on decimals. They spent the week adding and subtracting decimals, rounding decimals, and multiplying and dividing decimals by 10, 100, and 1000.
For IPC, we have started a new unit called ‘ What a Wonderful World,’ discovering all about planet earth and all its geological and scientific processes. As an Entry Point to this unit the students have started making their own calendar with the theme of planet earth, they found pictures to represent each month and designed a front cover.
In English, just like in the first term to help the students really get to grips with story writing, the students have started to memorise a short story based on Harry Potter. The students will then cover lots of new learning around this text and it will help them plan and write their own. This week we looked at how Harry’s feelings changed from paragraph to paragraph and ‘hot seated’ him to get to know him better. The class also role-played the dialogue scene between Harry Potter and Lord Voldermort to then help them learn about inverted commas.
