Extra Support Lessons
Welcome to our ESL page. My name is Mrs. Baker. I come from South Africa where I taught in the public school system for many years teaching from kindergarten to high school. Once our children had left home my husband and were free to pursue our passion for traveling and so we moved on to teach for an eight year period in Malawi, Central Africa and then on to the Ukraine and now here in HFS where we have been very happily teaching for seven years now.
It is my pleasure to help the students in our school who need to improve their English skills. Some children come to me with very limited English language; others are fluent English speakers who just need some extra help in spelling and writing etc.
We have a large, fully equipped classroom at HFS, located on the ground floor in the upper school building. My classes are small, usually only two to five pupils at a time.
By creating a friendly and relaxing atmosphere the students can feel comfortable learning at their own pace and with children of their ability – especially if English is not their first language. The lessons are as lively and stimulating as possible to break the barriers of language by incorporating games, visual and auditory aids and other creative activities.
Many English speaking students need some extra help to become more proficient in their spelling and writing skills and I work closely with their teachers to see that these students stay on target.
I have personally gained so much from the different student’s cultures and backgrounds and find ESL teaching very rewarding and enjoyable.
Along with all our teachers at HFS I am always interested in meeting parents and discussing any concerns that may arise during the school year.
