We now have just two weeks to go until the end of the term. Firstly, just to make you all aware that on Wednesday 11 December we will have our termly parent-teacher conferences during the day the sign-up sheet will be at the HFS admin office for you to complete. The Winter Show is next Thursday and doors will open at 17:45 and I hope to see you all there. As part of the Winter Show HFS will be raising funds for the PTA to do this the students have been making Christmas crafts, they have painted Christmas scenes and started making snow globes.
The students have also been practicing their song which is part of the Grinch performance, this means that all students will be involved, our class will perform sing a song by The Carpenters. The Year 5-9 class will also be performing a Christmas Lip Sync, which will be a lot of fun.
There is still so much learning to do before the end of the term. In English, we looked at Edmund’s character in particular and how he changed over the course of the book. We are close to finishing our study of The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe and to end this we will bring all our learning together in a project.
In Geography, we are doing some follow up work to our trip and we spent time looking at constructive and destructive waves and how they are different.
That’s all for this week, have a great weekend.
Hello everyone. As the end of term draws nearer so does the Winter Show a key event in the HFS calendar and this means that this week has been very busy. As well as all the learning that goes on for each subject, we as a class need to find time to practice our performances. We have also started making crafts to be sold at the Winter Show to help raise funds for the PTA.
This week was also extra busy as we had our first trip as a class to Padosori Coastal Path, this was a great learning experience and really tied in well to what we have been learning in geography. Leading up to our trip we looked at a variety of coasts and describe these then answered the question are all coasts the same. With this trip, the children were able to visit a unique coastal area, which has columnar joints and find out how these were formed. The students also spent time listing the physical and human features as well as taking photos and sketching what they could see.
When we weren’t doing something related to the Winter Show, lessons went on as normal. In maths, the children have been working on fractions, decimals, and percentages and being able to convert from one to the other.
In History, the students are now working on the Civil Rights Movement and we did a quick introduction as to why this started and we will move onto the key figures, groups, and events in the final weeks.
That’s all for this week, have a good weekend everyone!
Hello everyone. There are now only four weeks left of the first term, we are now at the point when activities and events will be coming in thick and fast. A reminder that the London class will be on the trip to Padosori Coastal Path on Wednesday 20th, please make sure you sign the permission form, a link to this can be found under class information. I would also like to add that the students have been asked to bring in a bottle (plastic or glass doesn’t matter) to art class so that these can be decorated as part of a lesson. The winter show is nearly upon us, London class will be performing a Christmas Lip Sync as part of the show as well as performing a song in the Grinch production.
In Geography, this week we went outside and used our weather station to measure the weather, the children were able to record temperature, wind direction, wind strength, rainfall, and make any other comments. Next Tuesday we will do some pre-visit learning on coasts before our trip on Wednesday.
In English, we have continued our study of The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe, the students have been analyzing characters and doing descriptive pieces of writing. At the start of the week, the children worked in pairs and created their own mythical creature to write about. Then Oon Friday, I also go the students to do a task where they took on the role of one of the Pevensie children and answered questions in the mind of the character, we did this in a talk show form.
Wednesday was the first-ever HFS Spelling BEE competition, it was great to have four members of London class so enthusiastic to do this. Each participant clearly put a lot of time and effort into learning the word, Dave was the eventual winner. Well done to all those who participated!
That’s all for this week, have a great weekend everyone!
On Wednesday 20th November the Year 5-9 class will be going on an educational visit to Padosori Coastal Path. I hope you all able to make the most of the week off and did lots of fun and exciting things. This week started off our class led assembly and the students had the Topic of environmental awareness. To show how the school could show this value we took the whole school outside and did a cleanup of the futsal area, this was great as it allowed us to actively look after the school environment.
We are coming to the end of our unit on weather and climate and to bring this to a close the students looked at weather measuring equipment. To do this they were also able to build a small weather station, we will take this outside and measure the changes in the weather over the next week. Next in Geography, we will be moving onto coastal landforms and changes.
This week we have also started a new unit in PE, striking games so we have taken up cricket, to start with the students worked on bowling and batting in pairs. Then we also looked at some fielding skills.
Have a great weekend everyone!
