Week 1 Update

Hello everyone!

What a fantastic start to the new school year, this first week has flown by. Firstly, I would like to welcome two new students that have joined our class, welcome to Dayeon and Hannah. They have settled in well, worked hard and made some new friends. I would like to thank the rest of my class for being so welcoming and helpful to both of them, well-done everyone!

Much of this week has been about me getting to know my new class and the students getting to know each other, we played some games and designed an all about me phone. We also spent some time doing some assessments so I could see what each students strengths and weaknesses are in order to help them progress over the year.

This week, we have also started our new topic for IMYC called Collaboration. To start this, I gave them the scenario of being stuck on a small Island, the students worked in small groups and decided which items would be most useful for their survival and then they created shelters together.

We also started our Brain Wave unit, which is about how students learn. The students started a presentation about how the brain works, we were also lucky enough to have a skype talk with a friend of Mr. Kearney. He showed us a project he is working on to help students learn, which involves AR (augmented reality), the students learnt a lot and hopefully, we can use AR in the classroom.

That’s all for this week, I hope you all have a great weekend!

Greetings from Mr. Dunn

Hello and welcome to Year 5-9 for the new academic year.

I am Mr. Dunn and I am very excited to be starting a new year here at HFS as the Year 5 -9 class teacher. I am sure this is going to be another excellent year for all of those involved at HFS and I am looking forward to creating a wonderful and engaging learning environment for the entire class.

A few things about me for those that are new to the school, I am from West Sussex, UK, very close to London. I have been teaching for 7 years; most recently in Bradford, UK. Before that, I was an ESL teacher in South Korea, Ulsan; teaching at both public schools and hagwons. My undergraduate degree is in History and Politics from Liverpool Hope University and I completed my PGCE at Sheffield Hallam University. I have a family, my wife is from Ulsan and we have two children an 18-month old girl, called Ayla and 4-year-old boy, called Noah, who is attending HFS.In my free time, I love sports, both playing and watching, in particular, rugby and football(soccer) and I am very excited to be starting a cricket and baseball club this term. I also enjoy traveling, I have visited many different parts of the world and enjoy learning about different cultures, trying new foods and visiting famous places.

A reminder to take the time to look at the class timetable and curriculum overview, both of which can be found under the class information page and check the website regularly for additional information for all the goings-on at school. A few things to make you aware of, your child will have PE on Tuesday and Friday, please make sure they are wearing PE kit. Also, the library class will take place on Wednesday, this is a great opportunity for your child to make use of the library and take books home to read. I am always available if you have any concerns so please don’t hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
