Hello all! This is the final class update for the 2018/2019 academic year and wow what a year it has been! I have had a tremendous amount of fun teaching this class and we have made a lot of fond memories. It will be sad to see two students leaving for new schools, good luck to Matthew and Adam and all the best for the future. HFS will miss you both and I am sure you will have a lot of success. Erin and Leigh-ah will have the joy of me being their teacher next year and I am really looking forward to it!
The highlight of this week was a trip to the cinema to see Toy Story 4, the movie was great and enjoyed by all! After that, everyone returned to school to enjoy some pizza for lunch.
The majority of this week was spent working on our final assembly projects. For the assembly, the students shared work around plate tectonics and how volcanoes work, they were able to show a working volcano with a model they made. They also showed a model trench that they made to explain how trench warfare worked. Sadly the tsunami model didn’t work as hoped so it was not shown as part of the assembly, this was a great shame as the students did put a lot of effort into this as well.
That’s all for this week, I hope everyone has a fantastic summer and see you all in August.
Another fun filled week in London class as we begin to end each topic we are currently studying in each subject. Early in the week, we had an open day with potential new students and their families coming to visit. To end this week we had the HFS Dance Party where the children could show off their dance moves. The parent-teacher conferences will be taking place next Wednesday, please visit the school to make sure you have a time slot. Reports will also be sent home today as well as the Cambridge Checkpoint exam results, each student has had a fantastic term three.
In English, we started writing our sci-fi stories, they started by coming up with a what if question e.g what if earth was invaded by aliens? Then, they used this to create ideas and then they have started on the opening to their story.
This week in history, we began to wrap up our work on The First World War by looking at Trench Warfare. First, the students had a scavenger hunt to see what they could find out about the trenches, they read a variety of sources and answered questions.
After this, the students started a project to show what life was like in the trenches. Matthew and Leigh-ah worked on making a model of a trench and Adam and Erin have started a Googleslides presentation to show a variety of information.
On Friday we had another special guest, as Jack Bray come to visit and spend the day with us. We spent much of Friday decorating the hall for the HFS Dance Party, the class also helped make decorations to transform the hall.
That’s all for this week, have a good weekend. I look forward to seeing you all next week!
Hello everyone! Another super busy week for London class as we enter the final two weeks of this school year. The week started off with our class assembly, the students talked about the residential trip and the HFS values they used throughout the trip. A lot of this week has also been dedicated to the GL assessments, the students had an exam for English, Maths, and Science, the students did really well and the results will be discussed at the final parent-teacher conferences.
The GL assessments took up a chunk of our learning time but we still had a lot of activities were fit in throughout the week. We also spent some time this week working on our projects for the final assembly, the students continued to work on their volcano and tsunami art project.
In English, we continued our work around Science Fiction writing this week the focus was on building tension and creating suspense, the students used the tv series Falling Skies as a stimulus to help them with their writing.
That’s all for this week. Next week we have the HFS School Dance on Friday, which I am sure is going to be the highlight of the week. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.
Welcome back after our residential trip to Busan! I am sure that all the children had an amazing time filled with unique experiences and I hope they made some wonderful memories. We are now in week seven and as this term draws to an end there is still a lot of learning and school events to fit in.
This week in English we have started our unit around narratives with a focus on Science Fiction writing. All of this week was spent working around setting descriptions and how to engage with the reader; the students used War of the Worlds to aid them with their writing.
In Science we continued our work around animal relationships, this week the focus was on ecosystems and how changes to these impact on web chains.
We had a special visitor join us for the day on Friday, Jinmyeong returned to see us all and spend the day in the Year 7,8,9 class.
For most of Friday, the students started to prepare for the final assembly. They began to create a volcano and a model that will sure a tsunami, this will be a great visual display so they can explain how volcanoes and tsunamis work to the rest of the school.
That’s all for this week, have a great weekend!
