A super busy week, with lots of different learning going on. This week has also included our class being responsible for our virtual pet, making sure he is well looked after.
After looking at persuasive techniques in the previous weeks this weeks the students have worked on an advertising campaign. They worked in pairs to advertise a new settlement linking in well with our IMYC topic ‘Discovery’. Each pair has worked on producing a large poster, which will include a persuasive speech to the King, a persuasive leaflet and a persuasive poster.
In Geography, the students looked at the different areas of early American Settlements and chose where their settlement would be located. They carefully considered a wide range of factors and justified their reasons.
In Science, we looked at a timeline of key Scientific Discoveries and analysed each of these. In History, the students looked at the impact exlporers had on the place they discovered and draw the route they took.
It has been such a nice week have all the students back at school. We also welcomed back Margo to the Year 6-9 class, she spent around a year back in Russia and has seamlessly adapted back to life at HFS.
This week in English, the students worked on persuasive writing. We looked at the school’s own leaflet and discussed the features used as well as discussing how persuasive we thought we thought it was. Next, the students created their own leaflet on an area of their choice.
Also this week the students researched the Renaissance to give them some historical context for the Age of Discovery.
I would also like to offer a parent-teacher conference meeting as we weren’t able to meet in person before Christmas. Please respond to my email that will be sent out if you would like to arrange one.
Welcome back, I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break. This week, the students have worked well online, but I am looking forward to having them back in class from next Monday. We also welcomed Nathan, to the class as a few children moved classes to aid and benefit them.
The class started new topics for each subject, for IMYC the students will look at a unit called ‘Discovery’. As an entry point for this the I sent home an excavation kit, where they could discover what lay inside.
After the entry point, the students researched a famous explore from the Age of Discoveries in History and created a timeline of scientific discoveries in Science.
In English, we started a Nonfiction unit and the students looked at the features of blog writing before creating their own blog post.
That’s all for this week, see you all on Monday! Have a great weekend!
