Happy New Year and welcome to the new term at HFS! Please help us give a warm HFS welcome to all our new students and their families. We hope you’ve all had an exciting and reinvigorating holiday. These first few weeks back will busy and a relatively uninterrupted learning period which I know all our teachers are keen to take advantage of.

Due to Mr Kearney’s transfer to Year 3-4 there is currently a vacancy in ESL. Though we have already begun the recruitment process to fill this position it will require a number of weeks for us to select a candidate and prepare all the necessary documentation before a new teacher may take his place. In the meantime with smaller class sizes across much of the school and the reallocation Teaching Assistant support, I am confident our class teachers will be able to provide the necessary support for our ESL learners. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

The HFS team would also like to congratulate Ms. Josie Strang on her new appointment as the Year 3-9 team leader. She brings new strengths and experience to our team, which we know she will apply to the benefit of all at HFS.

This Wednesday in the notices section of our website you’ll also be able to find the 2015-16 HFS Community Questionnaire. This questionnaire is important to us as it allows us to get a clearer image of the wants, needs and perceptions of the HFS community and helps us to plan accordingly. We would greatly appreciate it if each HFS family could take a few minutes to complete all the questions.

I would also like to take this opportunity to personally extend an invitation to all members of the community to come by the school for a visit. Should you have any questions, comments, concerns or just feel the need to pop in and say hello, our doors are always open.  I believe that a strong community-school relationships begin with understanding one another and it is my hope that we have the opportunity to get to know and understand each other better in the near future.
