This week, we have started the activities for our topic, ‘Let’s Celebrate’. In Society, we talked about the different events that we celebrate and we made a newspaper with information about each celebration. The children worked really together as a team.
In maths this week, we have been learning to add and subtract using different methods. By the end of the week, the children have all been writing their own addition and subtraction calculations.
We also had fun creating our own characters to write a story. Some of the characters included princesses, robots and fairies. The children planned their stories, including a beginning, a middle and an end and then used their plan to help them write their stories.
In PE, we practised balancing; first using a noodle to balance our hoops and then trying to balance as we walked along the balancing beams. The trickiest bit was trying to balance with a bean bag on our heads.
This afternoon, the whole school visited the Art Centre and saw some of the work by Monet. The paintings came to life with moving projector images which was really fun.
Today, the children have received a letter to take home about the winter uniform. Please can these be completed and returned along with the 20,000KRW fee by no later than Friday 4th October.
Next week, we will be learning about celebrations and events that happened in our past. If you have any photographs or information, please send it with your child next week to help us to make our class timeline of events in our lives!
Have a great weekend!
Our topic this term is ‘Let’s Celebrate’. As part of our topic, we will be learning about events that the children have celebrated in their lives and making a timeline. If you have any photographs or information from events that the children have celebrated, e.g. birthdays, Christmas, Chuseok, Halloween, etc. and you wouldn’t mind sharing them, please could you bring them in next week so we can use them to help us make our timeline.
Thank you in advance 🙂
This week, we have started our new topic – Let’s Celebrate. We began our topic by talking about different celebrations that take place and ones that we have been to. We then planned out what would make a good celebration and decided to have our own. In Literacy, we have been reading a story called ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ so we decided to have our own tea party with some of the treats from the story. The children loved making their own party hats and helping to set up the classroom for our party and we played some fun party games.
In maths, we have been learning number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. We introduced the addition and equals sign to add two sets of numbers together and record them.
In Literacy, we have been learning about skills that the author uses to make a story interesting. We learned how to write a sentence using a capital letter and a full stop and then thought about how we could make it more interesting by using about adjectives and connectives. The children enjoyed retelling the story using the characters from the story.
In ICT this week, the children have been using Scratch to learn algorithms by making Scratch the Cat move with the movement blocks. They have also made their own coding journal to record what they did.
We also had the important task of looking after the school pets this week.
I hope you all have a great weekend and looking forward to another great week next week 🙂
Our topic this term is ‘Let’s Celebrate’. To begin our topic, we will be having a celebration with snacks and a drink so that children learn about what a celebration is and how people celebrate. On Friday afternoon, the children will have a small glass of juice and a small snack. If you have any issues, please inform me before Friday.
This week, we read ‘Whatever Next’ by Jill Murphy. Year 1/2 have been learning about the main characters and events in the story and retelling the story using the beginning, middle and end.
In maths, we have been continuing our number work. This week, we looked at comparing numbers using ‘more’ and ‘less’. We also learned about how numbers are made up of tens and ones and found numbers that are ‘between’.
We started phonics this week and the class have loved meeting Kit and Sam and the phonics family. We will be doing lots of reading and adventures with them throughout the year. We have also been learning about ‘real’ and ‘nonsense’ words.
This week, the children have been learning ‘qu’ and ‘ch’.
In IPC, Professor Spark sent us a letter but to reveal the magic, we had to make some 3D glasses. The class loved decorating and wearing their glasses to see the 3D text that we were sent!
Next week, it is Cheseok celebrations and our first class trip on Tuesday. I look forward to seeing some of you on Monday and hope you have a great weekend.
