Dear Parents and Children,
Another fun week of learning and discovery is under our belts and we have much to share from the year 2/3 classroom. The students consolidated their learning of fables by planning their own animal fable in English. They also learned about different types of sentences and the correct punctuation for each.
In Math the year 2 students practiced halving and doubling with counters and began their geometry unit by reviewing the properties of 2D shapes and sorting regular and irregular shapes. They also understand that polygon is another word for shapes. They year 3 students tackled division and learned about area and perimeter. They made their own rectangles and squares to calculate. In IPC we continued our exploration of jobs with a discussion of what jobs are important if we want to start our own town and learning our song for the month, “People in my town”. In P.E. we practiced our target sports with “Human Bowling” and “King, Queen and castle” games.
In ICT we started working on our ClassDojo portfolios by taking photos and writing our profiles. The students also documented their habitat creations which they took home today. Make sure to view and comment on their work online if you have a chance.
Thank you to all parents for the delicious candy donations to our Scary dress-up day on Wednesday 31st October. The students are looking forward to dressing up and decorating the class in all kinds of spooky ways. If you have anything that you think will help to make the classroom especially creepy please send it to school next week.
Thursday November 8th will be our class trip to Kidzania. It will be a full day outing and we will return to school by 4:30 pm to make the most out of the theme park. Please send the 10 000 Won payment for the trip to school by Monday 29th October. We are all extremely excited for the trip.
Please send any used items to school such as toys, books, clothes or any other trinkets that can be sold at the “Treasures and Trinkets” stall at the PTA Fall Fun Day on Saturday 10th November. It will be a fun day for a worthy cause
Finally, we would like to wish Seongyun a happy birthday for tomorrow and hope he has a super, terrific, awesome day!
That is all for this week, have a wonderful weekend.

Year 3 Spelling: actual actually address answer appear array sharing outlaw moral jobs
Dear Parents and Children,
How refreshing to have a full week of fun teaching and learning. The year 2/3 students have been busy little bees this week. They started off the week with a fantastic assembly showing off their rapping and singing skills and delivering a wonderful assembly about “Our World”.
They were equally productive in class. In English we learned about the legends of King Arthur and Robin Hood and looked at the morals from popular fables. In Maths we learned how to multiply and divide using arrays and we practiced our multiplication tables. In P.E. the students had fun practicing throwing different objects at targets for accuracy. IN ICT the students enjoyed researching animals in different habitats and learning about different myths and Legends. In IPC we consolidated our learning about habitats by planning and creating our own “shoe-box” habitats of the Savannah, arctic, jungle or ocean.
The most exciting news is still the planned upcoming trip to Kidzania in Busan in line with our IPC unit about “A day in the life”. We hope to attend Kidzania on either Tuesday 6 November or Thursday 8th November. It will be a full day trip and we will try our best to get the most out of the theme-park experience. Since it is a slightly longer trip it may affect the club activities on the day but we will find the best way to utilize the school bus while maximizing the time at the theme park and also disrupt the after school activities as little as possible. Please ensure that you complete the online permission form by clicking here by Monday 22nd November. Take note that it will require a 10 000 Won contribution, also, all parents must agree in order for us to make up a body of 15 students to secure the group discount. I look forward to a uniquely rewarding learning experience.
That is all for this week. Have a wonderful weekend and stay warm as it is getting chilly.
As part of our IPC learning unit on “A Day in the life” we will be looking at different jobs and occupations. Kidzania theme park in Busan offers a unique learning opportunity for children to experience what it is like to work in different jobs. HFS would like to organize a trip to Kidzania for the year 1/2/3 children on Tuesday 6th November.
You can view the Kidzania website by clicking here.
The price of admission is 23 000 Won. HFS will cover most of the cost but parents will have to contribute 10 000 Won towards the entrance fee. Note: This reduced entrance fee only applies to a group of 15 students or more so all parents must agree in order to make the trip viable.
Parents are asked to complete the online permission form by clicking here by no later than Monday 22nd October.

Dear Parents and Children,
What a busy week we’ve had. We were lucky to have a day off but we accomplished a lot in the year 2/3 class this week. We celebrated Cortney’s Birthday on Thursday and we practiced and rehearsed our Greek God rap and our “Boom-De-A-Da” song for our assembly on Monday. Join us for an entertaining and informative display of what we’ve been learning this term. In math we learned how to add in columns with borrowing and the year 3’s learned how to add up to three decimal points. The students had fun learning how to play cricket in P.E. and practiced their throwing and catching skills with Frisbees. The highlight was undoubtedly IPC when we went on a habitat exploration around the reservoir and were lucky enough to see turtles, birds and many, many spiders.
The students learned about recycling and that it is important to reduce our use of water, electricity and plastic and reuse items such as old clothes and books as well as what different materials can be recycled. They consolidated their understanding by creating wonderful recycled trees using plastic, fabric and paper. We will be making shoe-box habitats next week since a few students are still to bring their box. If you have not done so, please send a shoe-box or any other similar-sized box next week so that we can complete the activity on Tuesday.
Homework was sent with your child today so please check their bags and ensure that they complete it and return it by Wednesday.
That is all for this week. Have a great weekend.
Dear Parents and Children,
As part of our IPC unit about “Our World” we will be looking at recycling. We will be creating our own trees out of recycled materials this week and we request that you look around your houses to find any plastic, wood and paper objects that can be used for the project. Items such as bottle tops, magazine pages, small pieces of cardboard etc will be ideal. The school will provide the materials seen in the picture but any additional items that you can find will add to the splendor of the creations.
Also, please don’t forget to send a regular shoe-box or similar box for our habitat creations for Friday.
Thank you for your continued support for what promises to be a fun learning project.
Dear Parents and Children
Welcome back from the Chuseok break to what has been a brief and rainy couple of days in the Year 2/3 class. Despite it being a short week the students showed their mettle by working hard in their learning. In English we completed book reviews and wrote about our wonderful holiday break while also practicing our Greek God rap and creating symbols for our play characters. In Math the year 2’s reviewed adding and subtracting on a number line and using calculations to find the missing number while the year 3’s continued to work with decimals. In IPC we started learning about habitats and how different animals live in different places and in Music we explored how different music can make us feel different emotions. The students had fun practicing their throwing and catching with a Frisbee and learning how to play kick-baseball in P.E. All in all, a very short but productive week.
Next week we will be creating our own habitats and parents are kindly asked to send any regular shoe-box, similar to the one pictured, to school with their child for the activity. We will be doing it on Thursday. It should be a fun activity to consolidate our learning about the world around us.
Also, next week we will begin sending homework and spelling and vocabulary lists home as well as invitations to view your child’s progress in the School Class Dojo reward system. That is all for this week.
Have a wonderful weekend.
