Dear Parents and Children,

What a fantastic week we have had celebrating the joys of reading. Thank you to the parents and all involved in making Book week such an enjoyable experience. The costumes on dress up day were amazing. The reading corner and picnic was a resounding success and was enjoyed by all. Thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time to read to the children, even Mr. Mcleod popped in to the year 1-2 class to read “Oi get off our train!” They enjoyed it thoroughly. We took advantage of the lovely weather and had the senior students read to us outside.

Well done to the year 1-2’s for putting on a spectacular assembly. All their hard work and effort shone through in the memorable performance about germs and hygiene and the stories we created were entertaining and encompassed the spirit of book week.

Thank you to all the parents for the response to the permission form for the School trip to the Botanical Gardens on Monday 30 April. The trip will go ahead as planned and the bus will depart from the school promptly at 09:30 am. If you have not done so, please send the 7 000 Won fee for the plant growing activity with your child on Monday.

In class this week the students delved into fantasy stories by John Burningham while also learning valuable lessons about protecting animals in the story “Oi! Get off our train”. They also created wonderfully imaginative descriptions of where they would go if their bed was magical and could fly. The Year 1-2’s learned the rules of rounding up or down to the nearest 10 and created addition puzzles. In IPC we continued our inquiry into living things and took our germ experiments one step further by adding water, the students are eager to see the results in the coming days.

Next week the school assembly will shift to Thursday and will be conducted by the year 1’s. Please feel free to come and watch as they put on a performance about plants and living things.

Enjoy the pictures from these weeks’ activities and have a wonderful weekend.

Mr. Kearney and Ms. You

Welcome back and Week 1 News

Dear Parents and Children,

The first week of Term three has whisked by and what a great week it was. Teachers took advantage of the delightful weather and moved the learning out of the classroom to enjoy Spring and all the lovely things nature has to offer. We even had an outdoor Math lesson practicing counting by literally jumping on a number line.

In English we talked about Fantasy Stories and began reading imaginative stories by John Burningham. It being Earth Day we also discussed how we can take care of our environment and what it means to be an endangered or extinct creature. Living things will play a large role in our learning this term as we focus on Flowers and Insects in our IPC unit. The students had an enjoyable time looking for living and non-living things around the school and surroundings. We also began our first scientific inquiry into how germs spread. We will monitor this project in the coming weeks.

The Year 1-2 students have been rehearsing their assembly about “Protecting against germs”. Please feel free to attend on Monday for an entertaining lesson on hygiene.

Next week is Book Week and we look forward to the creative costumes that students will wear on Monday to imitate their favorite book characters. Please take part in the activities that will be held at HFS to celebrate and encourage reading.

On Monday 30 April the Year 1’s and 2’s will go on a School trip to the Botanical gardens to investigate Plants and Insects. The school will cover the entrance fee but there is a small cost of 7 000 Won for participating in a plant growing activity. We will post a detailed breakdown of the trip schedule next week.

Enjoy these pictures of your children learning this week.

Thank you and we hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Mr. Kearney and Ms. You
