Dear Parents,

We tend to find that time accelerates as the school year advances, with plenty to keep us busy as we sprint through the next 3 weeks.  The end of year is also a time when we say thank you to parent helpers in all their forms for the extra hands, eyes, bodies that make some much of what we do, possible – Keep an eye out this week as teachers send out invitations to: sports helpers, room parents, camp help, team support, readers, swimmers, fundraisers, organisers and other willing slaves.  We love and admire you, please come to our Parent Helper Luncheon 12:30 on June 17th.  Multiple invitations just means you have helped more people.

MERs is a growing worry for many.  Currently there are no local cases and, as all known cases have resulted from direct contact with an infected person, we have no need to panic.    Please reinforce our school hygiene lessons at home regarding handwashing, covered coughs and sneezes – as these strategies are good practice for preventing most illnesses.  As always, sick children should stay home.

I will be sending out induction information for the start of year to new families soon.  In line with the school calendar (webpage) we are inviting returning families to have a meeting with new Y1-9 teachers between 1:00 & 4:00pm on Friday 28th August.  A booking sheet will be put up on Monday 24th in the school entrance for these meetings.

I am pleased to announce we have filled the English Support vacancy.  Scott Kearney will join the team in September.  Scott is a South African teacher currently working in the Middle East.  Scott will be known as the ‘English Support Teacher’ – not the ESL or EAL teacher.  This is because we are finding these terms cause confusion as they mean different things in different places to different people.  The English Support teacher -supports the development of English in students who come from a non-English speaking background.  As with ALL our teaching staff Scott holds internationally recognised trained teacher qualifications and a has degree.  Scott has lived and worked in Korea before.

There is a lot on our calendar for the remainder of the term.  We are reviewing whether we should go ahead with end of year class trips in light of the MERs concerns and will make an announcement on this next week.  As always the details of the following items can be found on the webpage under Upcoming Events.
