Week 3 News and Spelling words

Year 1 Spelling: boat   coat   coin   join   boy   toy   we   there   can   an   your

Year 2 Spelling:  explain   meaning   alphabetical   energy   multiple   side   boy   animals enough  sometimes

Dear Parents and Children,

Another chilly winter week has passed by and we have progressed steadily with our work. In English we sorted words into alphabetical order and learned how to use a dictionary. The students had fun looking up the meanings of new words and words that they didn’t know. In Maths, we continued with repeated addition and multiplication (for Year 2). We played some challenging games to reinforce our learning of times-tables. Please test them to see how well your child knows counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. In IPC, we investigated the meaning behind the Olympic torch and made some of our own. The students showed wonderful creativity in their torch decorations.

Next week we will begin explanation text for English and continue with problem solving focusing on repeated addition and multiplication. In PE, we will be learning ‘Exercise for Music’ as well as attempting some Winter Olympic sports. It promises to be a fun week of learning ahead.

Keep warm this weekend.

Spelling Year 2: Olympics,  food,   keep,   children,   feet,   land,    repeated,   curling,    monitor,   Journal

Dear Parents and Children,

The cold spell has ended and the sunny weather is here for your fun weekend. We bid farewell to Selim and his family as they leave us this week. We wish them all the best luck and happiness in the future. Students kept warm this week by working hard. We have introduced some new procedures for our students to express their creativity. They have been given a reading-review book to keep track of the books they read in their leisure time, which is not compulsory but purely for their pleasure. (They will get a star sticker for every book-review they write.)

In English, we continued rehearsing poems to present in a future assembly. In Maths, we continued multiplication for Year 2 and repeated addition for Year 1. In IPC, we are having fun investigating the Winter Olympics. Please talk about this topic with your children (i.e. Sports your country will participate in, watch the news for any Olympic related events, etc.)

We look forward to starting club activities next week.

Have a great weekend (Be sure to protect yourself if the air quality is poor.)

Term 2, Week 1 News & Homework

Spelling Year 1:  called, where, just, know, most    rain, pain, nail, tail, sail

Spelling Year 2: continents, ocean, southern, memory, wondering, important, until, money, form, school

Dear Parents and Children,

Welcome back! We were thrilled to see all the children return happy and rested from the Winter vacation. We were lucky to have a bit of wonderful snow that led to a lot of fun and excitement. Enjoy the pictures. We got straight back into work from Day 1. We have learned classic nursery rhymes and poems in English and skip counting and word problems in Maths. In IPC, we have started our inquiry into the Olympics, which will carry on the following 6 weeks.

The whole school has decided that every student should have a journal for free writing to develop their writing skills. These will go home periodically for you to view what your child has written and also to write at home.

Year 1 students have also started to use the Weekly Spelling book to record and monitor their weekly spelling progress.

We look forward to having a successful and productive second Term!

Please enjoy the photos of week 1 in Year 1 and 2.
