End of Term 1 photos and something fun for holiday

Dear Parents and Children,

1 day of our precious holiday has gone! I hope you all have started enjoying your holiday! Please enjoy looking at your final photos taken in the final week of Term 1 at your leisure. These are final week learning shots, marvelous marble finishers and party shots.

For the children who are looking for some fun, exciting learning activities to enhance your learning, here are a few websites you can have fun with. Diary Writing (or book review with 2-3 sentences for Year 1) is also recommended for developing your writing skills. If you do, please bring your diary/book review to school along with some photos when you come back, which then can become a great resource for holiday talk and discussions.

Have a wonderful holiday everyone and we will see you on 8th January 2018. Thank you!

Ms. You and Mr. Kearney

Reminder to bring 500 ml Plastic Bottle

Hi Parents and Children

This is a gentle reminder that this week we will complete our IPC unit on The Magic Toy-maker. We will be constructing a balloon car and examining the science of what makes it move. In preparation for this project the students are asked to bring 1 x 500 ml plastic bottle of some sort. Any kind will do but the more colorful the better.

Hi Parents and Children

What an eventful week! I’m sure you all enjoyed the fantastic Winter Show! Well done to our teachers and children for their hard work in making the production a success and thank you to the parents for all their support, especially the PTA for the delicious intermission snacks. If you have any photos from the evening that you would like to share please email them to Ms. You or Mr. Kearney and we will post them on the class web page.

Thank you to the men and women of the Fire Department for assisting with our fire drill. The children did well in calmly following instructions to exit the building quickly but in an orderly fashion. As a reward they got to play on the fire truck!

Term 1 Student Reports went home today. Make sure to check your children’s bags, read them, fill in the comments section and sign it in preparation for the parent-teacher interviews on Wednesday.

Next week we will complete our IPC unit on The Magic Toymaker. We will be constructing a balloon car and examining the science of what makes it move. In preparation for this project the students are asked to bring 1 x 500ml plastic bottle of some sort. Any kind will do but the more colorful the better.

Even with the Winter Show, students kept busy this week. The students created spectacular moving robot toys in IPC and in English they are writing stories about their toys and in year 2 they learned about contractions. In Math we continued our unit on Measuring, finding creative ways to estimate and measure height and weight and using measurement to draw accurate shapes. We began to explore measuring time, learning the months of the year and how to read a calendar.

In I.C.T the students showed their artistic skills by creating wonderful drawings in MS Paint and in Mr Kearney’s P.E. class we developed our own new game called “Scoot”. Ask your children how to play it. Enjoy the pictures from these week’s dynamic learning activities and events.20171204_100906

Year 1: mat, wet, fin, how, mug, (CVC words) or, by, one, had, not, (High frequency words).

Year 2: Weight, metre, gram, cooperate, kilogram, don’t, world, going, want, didn’t

It’s been a wonderful winter week and the students have been busy.  Practices for the Winter Show are in full swing and everyone is learning their parts well getting ready for  Wednesday. It promises to be a fun and entertaining evening. Please use the weekend to get the children’s costumes ready for the rehearsal on Wednesday morning and contact  Ms. You or Mr Kearney if you have any queries.

This week in English we practiced using capital letters for proper nouns.  Some students staged a little play of “Little Red Riding Hood” from their guided reading books and wrote instructions for how to make a Thaumatrope. The children then followed up those instructions and made working Thaumatropes in IPC. We will continue to explore the history and science of toys next week. In Math the children had a lot of fun learning about measuring weight and metres in our measurement unit. We continued our IT learning by making folders on our computers and developing our mouse skills. In P.E the Year 1  / 2 students conducted a game of kick-baseball independently. Well done!

Enjoy the photos from this week, have a wonderful weekend and do keep warm.
