Whole School Sports Day Thursday 15th June

Start Time: 9:30 am     Finish Time: 12:30 pm    Where: Spanish Fields, Dong-Gu, Ulsan

On Thursday 15th June F1-Y9 students will take part in the annual Sports Day to be held at the Spanish Fields.  Students will be in mixed age teams, and will participate in a number of athletic activities throughout the morning, collecting valuable points in an attempt to be part of the winning team. All teams have been given the name of an animal to create even more excitement! There will also be Year group sprint races, plus tug of war competitions to add spice to the day.

Participation, fun and healthy competition are the aims for the day so please come along and support your child.

It would be appreciated if your child could come to school in their PE uniform and sports shoes. Please also ensure that your child puts sunscreen on before coming to school, and that they bring a hat, a filled water bottle, gloves for the tug of war event, plus a nutritious snack. All students (including EYC) should arrive at main school by 8.45am and will register in their classrooms as normal. EYC staff will meet their students in the front of school and then escort them to the cafeteria.

Students will travel to/from Spanish Fields by bus (please see * note below).

As part of the fun-filled morning, a special parent/teacher tug of war event will be held, so please come along prepared with sports shoes!

*Please note that Thursday 15th is a half day, as has been previously advertised, and there will be no afternoon classes. You may therefore collect your child once they return by bus from Spanish Fields (no later than 1pm).

We look forward to your support on Thursday the 15th.

EYC June Newsletter

And so we have reached the last month of this school year. Can’t believe we are here, but that doesn’t mean that it is the end of the fun. We still have a jam-packed month ahead.

New Topics

In F1 we will start our final topic next week. We will celebrate the warmer weather with our ‘Sand & Sun’ Topic.  The F2’s began their new topic this week, ‘Life cycles’. Topic Planners are available on the right hand side of the Early Year’s class page.

F2 Graduation

Thank you to all the parents who have RSVP’d by completing the online form and to those parents who have sent in the Graduation fee. Just a friendly reminder to please RSVP and send in the Graduation fee by tomorrow, Thursday 1st June.

F2 Transition Programme

As June is upon us it is time to inform our parents of the Transition Programme for the academic year 2017-2018 into Y1.  This is one of the most important times of the year for both you and your child, to ensure a smooth transition from your child’s current setting to their next.  We would like to make sure that parents and children are aware of the next steps and know what to expect before the first day of the new school year.

This coming Thursday, June 1st the F2s will join the Y1-Y9 for their weekly assembly over at Main School. This will be the first of two whole school assemblies they will join to start their Y1 transition program. Students will come to EYC as usual on Thursday morning. We will bus the students over to Main School just after lunch for them to join the assembly.

We ask for parents to please collect their children from Main School On Thursday, June 1st at 3:10pm.

On Tuesday 13th June we invite all Transitioning/ Returning parents to join Ms. De Klerk for a Y1 Transition Information Session; What to expect in Y1! More information regarding time and venue will be posted on the EYC page.

On Tuesday 20th, the F2s will have lunch at Main School and join the Y1s for some fun in their class. On this day the F2s will take the school bus earlier over to Main School to join the ‘big kids’ for lunch.

Exciting times for our F2s

Evacuation Drill

On Friday morning this week, June 2nd, the EYC will have an ‘Evacuation’ drill.  This is when the children and staff practice leaving the EYC building and gather at our muster point just outside the school gate.

HFS Sports Day

All parents, family members and friends are invited to come and spectate during our HFS Sports Day.

Date: Thursday 15th June (weather permitting)

Time: 9:30-1pm

Venue: Spanish Fields

Children will compete in teams and be asked to wear their PE shirts and don’t forget your hat. We ask all EYC students to please meet your teacher at Main School at 8:45, where we will assign the students to their teams and depart as a school together to the Spanish fields at 9am by bus.

As Thursday 15th June was the only available date at Spanish Fields for the event, there will be a change to the weekly programme at HFS. All children will go home at the conclusion of Sports Day, at no later than 1 p.m. This will allow some recovery time for our students, and our staff! To compensate for this, Wednesday 14th June will be a full school day, and follow the regular Thursday timetable and curriculum.

Learning Journals

EYC students will complete their Early Years Learning Journals in June and will be ready for their move to their new schools.  The electronic Learning Journals can be exported and downloaded to allow children to keep their Learning Journals forever.  Once the Learning Journals have been exported, the child’s online account is deleted.  The document is exported as a PDF and can be printed by parents if chosen.  The document is an extremely large document and requires a USB memory stick / flash drive for us to pass the document to parents electronically.

We ask for all our parents to supply a USB memory stick / flash drive by Friday 9th June for you to receive your child’s Learning Journal at the end of Term 3 along with their Progress Report.  Please add your CHILD’S NAME to the USB memory stick / flash drive cover.

Finishing Term 3 Early

We are hearing of some children who are leaving HFS early, before the end of Term 3.  If this is your family, then please do keep us informed as we need this information to help us organise events such as, Transition, Sports Day and the F1/F2 End of Year Trip.  If your child is returning to HFS in August, then the Term 3 progress report and final assessment will be held at school and passed to parents upon your return via your child’s new class teacher.

Shared Learning, Term 3 Progress Reports and Parent Interviews

On Friday 23rd June the Term 3 reports will be given out during our last Shared Learning of the academic year.

F1 Shared Learning is at 11:40am on Friday 23rd June

F2 Graduation

The Children have recently been very busy filling out their ‘applications’ for Big School. We have been interviewing them over the past three weeks. Some of their answers were just what we were expecting, but there were certainly a few in there that we just didn’t see coming. We hope you enjoy reading them as much as we did listening to them.

Today (Friday, May 19th) you will receive their ‘résumé’ for Big School, in the form of an invitation to the F2 Graduation on Wednesday 21st June. Please make sure to check your child’s books bag for your invitation.

Please RSVP by completing the online form on or before May 31st.

Thank You

EYC Team

Sports Day And Swimming Help

Just a reminder that I am looking for parent help for both the HFS Whole School Sports Day on June 15th, and the Swimming classes that commence next week. Without enough parent hands the Sports Day cannot possibly run effectively, as all teaching staff and assistants are all heavily involved already.  Basically I need help in escorting the various teams around a course of 7 athletic events and generally supervising them. All simple stuff which will take no longer than one hour. You can then relax and settle down to watch the sprint races and tug of war safe in the knowledge that you have “done your bit” for the HFS community.Your cooperation in this matter would be really appreciated. Full instructions will of course be given.

Please rush your interest to me at richardmoss@hyundaiforeignschool.com

Many thanks
