Dear Parents

Chuseok Festivities

Thank you for attending the HFS Chuseok festivities today. It was entertaining and illuminating. I trust that a good time was enjoyed by all despite the weather being a little wet. It is important for an International School to honor the hallowed festivals, holidays and traditions of the host culture in which it resides. At HFS we aim to do that by including the whole school in the preparation and proceedings. Well done to the year 2/3’s for being excellent MC’s and thank you to Miss Yuli for the wonderful Seoye calligraphy. I particularly enjoyed the informative presentations by the senior students and the Shireum wrestling was a lot of fun. Thank you to the HFS staff for all their hard work they put in toward making today a success and I look forward to next year’s celebration. Please enjoy these pictures from the day’s activities and please follow the HFS Facebook page for more.

Chuseok Holiday

The school will be closed from September 24th until October 3rd. I hope everyone will have an enjoyable break and I look forward to seeing you return on Thursday October 4th.

Electronic Devices

그림1

HFS encourages the use of laptops and tablets but a few students have been bringing with them electronic devices that may be a distraction to the learning environment. If a device does not have an immediate educational value it will be restricted from the classroom. Students will be asked to place their device in the school lockers provided and they can use it during break times and after school.

Reading and homework

At HFS we believe readers are leaders and so we will encourage students to read-read-read during the holiday break, particularly on any rainy day. Also ensure that any homework that is assigned is completed as soon as possible to enjoy as much of the holidays as you can.

Thank you for your continued support and have a wonderful Chuseok Holiday.

Best regards,

Scott Kearney

Dear Parents

Thank you for your responses to the notice regarding the swimming club. Since we did not meet the required number of students necessary to have an intermediate class we will instead conduct two beginner courses on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively

Please view the table below to see in which day your child is enrolled. The club will start from Tuesday 16th October and will continue until 5th December. Please make the 90,000 Won payment for the 4 lessons per month directly to Mr. Cha the instructor at your first lesson. The second payment can be made in the first week of November.

Swim

Students will meet the instructor at the HFS Multi-media Center after school is dismissed and will be escorted to the pool. You may collect your child from the HFS Multi-media Center after the lesson is completed.

We are calling on any parents who would like to assist in supervising children in the change room at the beginning and end of the lesson to kindly contact the school.

I am happy to report that the school trip to the Ulju Mountain Film Festival was a resounding success. Lunch Time Volunteers

This week we had our first meeting of the PTA and I am extremely grateful for the continued support and interest shown by the parent body of HFS. One of the issues raised was the need for parent volunteers during our lunch period. If anyone would like to volunteer to be an extra pair of eyes watching over the children in the cafeteria between 12:30 and 1:00 please show up on any date you are available.

Chuseok

추석

Next Friday, the 21st sees the respected and revered Korean Harvest moon festival of Chuseok. To honor this holiday HFS will have its annual Chuseok program to which all parents are welcome to attend. The festivities begin at 11:30 with an interval for the regularly scheduled lunch and play break. The activities will continue in the afternoon with some fun outdoor games and performances. Students are welcome to dress in traditional festive clothing from Korea of their own country for the day.

Club Activities

Our after-school club activities continue to be popular. We are happy to try and accommodate parents and students wishing to sign up for clubs at any time and we appreciate that parents may have missed the sign-up deadline or may not have completed the online sign up form. If this is the case, please send an email to Ms. Yujin at admin@hyundaiforeignschool.com so that we are aware that a student is in a particular club and that miscommunications can be avoided. Please click here to see which clubs has your child signed up for.

Finally, if for any reason you do not receive the weekly newsletter please check the spam folder in your email and if your contact information should change, please inform the school so that we can update our records. The newsletter is also published to the school web page for your convenience.

2018/19 Drama Club Survey

Posted in - Uncategorized

안내문 헤드

Dear Parents

Drama Club

HFS is always eager to institute initiatives that will benefit the students learning and development. Drama, song and dance are excellent methods for building a child’s confidence, speaking and artistic abilities.

With the assistance of Dongrami theater, last year HFS staged a fantastically successful and entertaining production of “The Wizard of Oz”. We would like to continue that success this year with a production of “Aladdin” for our end-of-term Winter show. To facilitate this production we are happy to have Miss Yujeong from the Dongrami theater running a Drama club at HFS. Any children who would like to participate in the Drama club should attend the audition on Tuesday 11 September from 3:30 to 4:30. (Those involved in Tuesday club activities will be allowed to audition first and then join their regular club afterwards.)

After the auditions The Drama club will meet every Thursday as a regular after school club activity beginning from 13 September.

Please indicate on the online form by Monday 10 September if you would like your child to attend the audition and be a member of the HFS Drama club.

Thank you for your continued support and participation.

Best regards,

Mr. Kearney

2018/19 Swimming Lessons Survey

Posted in - Uncategorized

안내문 헤드

Dear Parents

Swimming lessons at Hanmaeum Center

Since HFS is located at the well-equipped Hanmaeum center we would like to take advantage of all the facilities they have to offer. A number of parents have raised the question of swimming lessons and while HFS is unable to include swimming in its core program, we have made an arrangement with Hanmaeum Center to make one swimming lane available to us for beginner and intermediate swimming lessons at the Hanmaeum center swimming pool.

The person conducting the lessons will be Mr. Taeho Cha. He is a qualified and experienced swimming instructor. He has served as the technical director of the Korea Life Saving Society and has a lifeguard License issued by The Royal Life Saving Society of Australia as well as a Swimming Coaching License issued by the Australian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association (ASCTA). Furthermore, he is fluent in English.

Mr. Cha will offer lessons for beginners on Tuesdays and intermediate swimmers on Wednesdays from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm respectively.

The lessons will cover the following swimming skills.
●   Beginner : Safe entry, floating, treading water, sculling and basic swimming skills
●   Intermediate : Basic swimming skills, survival swimming skills, four strokes

Since this is a private activity, separate from HFS, there will be a cost of 90,000 won for 4 lessons per month. Due to safety concerns, space for the lessons will be limited to maximum of 6 students per class and will operate on a first come first serve basis. The lessons are restricted to students aged 5 and up (Year 1 to Year 9). Please click here to complete the online survey to indicate if you would be interested in sending your child to these lessons. The form should be submitted by no later than Thursday 13 September. Furthermore, since Hanmaeum Center is a shared community space, we are calling on volunteers from the parent body who could supervise the children in the changing room before and after the lesson. If you would be prepared to assist with this, please indicate that on the survey.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best regards,

Mr. Kearney
