Dear HSF Parents,

It has been a real pleasure joining the Hyundai Foreign School family this week as the new Principal. I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome I have received from parents, teachers and students. So you are aware, I am Canadian and I have spent the last 20 years working in international schools around the globe.  I am pleased that the students at HSF seem engaged in their learning and are well on their way to becoming enlightened and passionate global citizens.

I have an, “Open Door Policy,” and I welcome parents, staff and students to see me anytime if they have questions or concerns. I am confident that with hard work and cooperation between the school and home, our students will enjoy the success they deserve.

Please contact the school if you have any questions regarding the contents of this newsletter.

Class Photos Monday, October 30th

Year One and Two photos will take place on Monday, October 30th. We ask that Ms. You’s class wear red tops and Mr. Kearney’s class wear blue tops.

We are all looking forward to an exciting Dress Up Day on Tuesday.  All children and staff have the option of dressing in their choice of costume for the day.  This is a chance for students to use their imagination and be creative.  Each class will have the opportunity to parade through the various classes and offices in the school to display their unique costumes.  At 11:45am, the entire school will parade through the compound and in the surrounding community to celebrate our special day.  Following the parade, there will be a picnic outside with games for everyone! Parents are welcome to parade with us and dress up, as well.

We look forward to seeing you all there.

Coffee with the Principal, Wednesday, November 1st

After parents drop off their children on Wednesday, parents are welcome to come and meet the Principal for a drink and snack.  Coffee and tea will be served in the playground at 9:15am.  All parents are welcome to join us!

Library Volunteers

Parents interested in volunteering in the library are asked to meet Ms. Gang and the Principal in the library on Thursday at 3:40 pm for an organizational meeting.  We are excited about having parents being more involved in our library.  Remember……. Readers are Leaders!

Dogs on Campus

It has come to our attention that some dogs are being walked on school grounds after school hours.  We have had students slip and fall in, “Dog Mess,” which has resulted in tears and hurt feelings.  Please, we ask that dogs are walked off campus to avoid this from happening to our students.  Thank you for you for your cooperation in this matter.

We are all excited about the upcoming week.  Please ensure that you read with your child each evening!

Best Wishes,

Peter McLeod

Dear HFS Parents,

We are already at the halfway point of Term 1, humming along in our collective journeys of teaching and learning. I am quite certain that we will complete this journey through active support and attention from the school community.

This week, I am particularly pleased to inform you that Mr. Peter McLeod, the new Principal, will commence his role as Principal of HFS from Monday, 23 October.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the stakeholders of our school community for pulling together to provide valued support for the school in the absence of the Principal.  As the school starts a new chapter with the incoming Principal, I have no doubt that you will continue to do so in the future.

From next week, Mr. McLeod will write the school newsletter to you. Although I began writing the newsletter to you out of necessity under the prevailing circumstances, I soon came to appreciate that it was a valuable opportunity for me to connect with you.  I would like to thank you for helping me feel that way.

Here are details of events set to take place in the following weeks.

Class Photos for Y1 and Y1/2 on Monday, 30th October (Uniform Required)

With the splitting of the Year 1 and 1/2 classes and the arrival of Mr. Kearney, we will be taking class photos for the Year 1 and Year 1/2 classes on Monday, 30th October. Please make sure that your child comes to school on that day in the school uniform or brings one with them. Class teachers will let the students know which colour to wear.  This information will also be made available on their class pages.

Year 1 and Year 1/2 Trip, Thursday, 2nd November

The Year 1 and Year 1/2 classes plan to have a school trip on 2nd November. They will take a tour of Hyundai Heavy Industries and visit the Ulgi Lighthouse and the bridge at the Daewangam Park. This trip is line with the IPC unit on buildings and has been arranged for the students to have a chance to have a look at the designs of the industrial buildings and structures.

Thank you for your time and I wish you and your family a wonderful weekend.

Warm regards,

Dear HFS Parents,

The change of season brings with it pleasant and comfortable weather with less humidity. Autumn has traditionally been described in Korea both as a season of bountiful harvest and as the one more favorable to “drawing near to the study lamp.” I hope that our students get the maximum benefit out of the good weather by engaging more in the outdoor activities and applying themselves to their studies.

I have fantastic news to deliver to the school community as well as a couple of reminders for the following week.

Appointment of the New Principal

I am pleased to inform you that we have appointed the new Principal, Mr. Peter McLeod, and he is likely to arrive at the school within the next couple of weeks. All his documents were submitted to the immigration office prior to the Chuseok break and his visa is in process. Mr. Peter McLeod is a highly experienced educational expert from Canada with 20 years’ leadership experience. He is certain to be a valuable asset to the school with his extensive experience and knowledge and I would appreciate your valued support for him to succeed in his endeavor. He will make a formal introduction upon his arrival.

First PTA Meeting on Tuesday, 17th October at 2 pm

During the last term of the 2017/18 academic year, the PTA passed the torch to the new PTA and Mrs. Brony Pevreal took on the role as the new Chair. She wants to have the first PTA meeting on next Tuesday, 17th October at 2 pm at the Banquet Room of the Compound Clubhouse. I am aware that Mrs. Pevreal is currently inviting new members to join the PTA. The school welcomes and appreciates active and constructive engagement from the parent community and in this regard, it would be our pleasure to see many parents come out and attend this first meeting of the PTA in the new academic year. I am attaching her message below.

PTA MEETING, Banquet room, Clubhouse
TUESDAY 17th OCTOBER, 2pm

We would like to invite all parents who are interested in coming and joining the HFS PTA to our first meeting of the year.

The PTA last year held many events like the Fall Festival, International Food Day, Spring Bonanza, Yearbook and Scholastic Book orders, fun days at school and pizza lunches….

We welcome anyone to join, and are keen to have new fun events, if you have ideas we would love to hear them.

We had a great meeting at the end of the last school year, this was very promising and we had a great response from parents. If you are still keen to join, we would love to have you on the team.

Please consider coming to the meeting and volunteering your time to make fun events happen for your kiddos. 🙂

We hope to see you next Tuesday!

Please feel free to bring preschoolers, they are more than welcome!

If you have any questions about the meeting please feel free to ring Brony on 010 2810 4420 or email pta@hyundaiforeignschool.com.
