Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter. After our recent break, the pace of life at HFS will quicken with much to complete before the end of this academic year. There will be many activities for our students including our annual Sports’ Day, Maths Day and end of year assessments, and end of year trips for all year groups. With this also being the time that some of our families will also be leaving the school, it will be very important for all our students to value these final weeks of this academic year. It is an opportunity to reflect upon, and appreciate, the friendships that have been made, and the experiences they enjoyed during this time.

Earthquake Drill

The school carried out another Earthquake Drill this morning, following Government instructions. The drill was completed quickly and without incident. A test emergency message was sent by text to all families at approximately 9.45 a.m. this morning, following the protocols in place for a real event. If you did not receive this test text message, please contact the school administration at admin@hyundaiforeignschool.com in order to check family contact details.

Term Three Extra Curricular Activities

Art Auction Friday 12th May @the Clubhouse from 7.00 p.m.

TONIGHT’s the NIGHT! All of the canvases your children have painted will be auctioned off at the Art Auction. First item up for bid at 7:30 pm!! So, come to the clubhouse at 7 pm, grab a drink, an appetizer, and take a look at the canvases before the auction starts! (Please bring cash for your purchases.)

Assessment Weeks May 15th – 25th

During these weeks, all students will have assessments in Mathematics and English, with students in Year Three and above also having an assessment in Science. The data from these assessments will be used to inform the end of year full academic reports, and also the three-way Student / Parent / Teacher conferences coming up next month.

As always, we strongly advise against any attempt to ‘cram’ or revise for these assessments, as this can frequently have an adverse effect at this late stage. We always try to ensure this is a stress-free experience for all our students, and we hope that this will also be supported at home.

Maths Day Friday 26th May

We are looking forward very much to this year’s Maths Day, which will be an opportunity for our students to enjoy exciting Maths investigative activities. It is hoped that this will provide some stimulating relief after the assessments, and also encourage enthusiasm for this subject amongst some of our more reluctant mathematicians. Further details will be available on the website class pages nearer the day.

HFS Open Morning Saturday 20th May from 10 a.m.

We are looking forward to hosting our Open Morning and Information Session next Saturday. Although all families are invited to come to this meeting, it’s primary purpose is to provide information for families who are new to HFS, or may be considering joining our school. Much of the information in this session was covered in the Parents’ Information Session held last March. If any families were unable to attend that meeting, please do join us next Saturday to hear our proposals for the new academic year.
