Newsletter Term 2 Week 3

Posted in - Latest News

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter. On behalf of all here at HFS, I wish all our families and friends a very happy and prosperous Lunar New Year. Happy Seollal!

School bus

A gentle reminder to inform the school office, or Ms Duri, know in advance when your child will not be taking the bus on any particular day. This will enable the bus to collect other students on time. If your child is sick, then we would appreciate prompt notification that he or she will not be taking the bus that morning. Please contact the school’s administrative office at office@hyundaiforeignschool.com. Thank you very much for your help with this matter.

School closing for Seollal

A gentle reminder that school will be closed for the coming holiday from Friday 27th to Tuesday 31st January. School will reopen on Wednesday 1st February, with this being a half-day as usual.

Please do enjoy a very happy and peaceful family holiday.

Kind regards,

Tony Blacklock

Term 3 Jong-i jeobgi (Origami) Club

Posted in - Uncategorized

종이접기 Jong-i jeobgi (Paper folding=Origami) club

종이접기 Jong-i jeobgi is the Korean word for origami. Jong-i jeobgi is commonly taught to schoolchildren as part of lessons on art, science, math, and history. Paper folding and paper crafting remain an important part of Korean culture.

Jong-i jeobgi (Paper folding=Origami) is a wonderful hobby, and a wonderful group activity… and for kids it has so many benefits socially and for the developing mind, but I just love it because you get to make cool stuff – with only a sheet of paper!

Let’s try to transform a sheet to be an anything!

Year levels: Year3-6(limited to 8 students)

Start Date: Tuesday 16,05 2017 (for 5weeks)

Time:  3:30 pm t- 4:10 pm

Venue:  Korean classroom

Club run by: Mrs. Lee Korean teacher (ganglee@ hyundaiforeignschool.com)

Term Two Week Two

Posted in - Latest News

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter. At HFS we are looking forward to Seollal (Lunar New Year) next week, and the children are happily preparing performances and activities to celebrate this special event to which we warmly invite all family and friends. Please see ‘Seollal Celebrations at HFS’ in the  ‘Notices’ on the school website for further information.

School Lockdown practice

This morning HFS carried out a school ‘lockdown’ procedure both at the main site and the EYC, allowing the students and staff to familiarise themselves with the practices and routines to be followed in case of a serious indecent at either school. I am pleased to report the children followed all instructions impeccably, and lessons were halted for less than twenty minutes.

Allergies at school

As I am sure you are aware, the nature of the employment most families enjoy, who attend our school, means the school population frequently changes. Whilst this means the specific needs of individual students may change as students join or leave HFS, the school takes a broader perspective of our student needs and applies policies in a consistent manner. Consequently, HFS will remain a nut and seafood-free zone until the end of Term Two, when this policy will be reviewed. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

Violin Tuition

Please see the website for further information regarding this new offering at HFS. We are very pleased to be able to offer musical tuition for our students, and we are hoping to extend our programme to other instruments. If you are interested and able to offer tuition on other instruments, please contact the school administrative office at admin@hyundaiforeignschool.com.

School closing for Seollal

A gentle reminder that school will be closed for the coming holiday from Friday 27th to Tuesday 31st January. School will reopen on Wednesday 1st February, with this being a half-day as usual.

Please do have an enjoyable weekend.

Kind regards,

Tony Blacklock

Term 2 Week 1 Newsletter

Posted in - Latest News

Dear Parents, Students and Staff,

Welcome back! I do hope that the holiday was restful and very enjoyable for all our families. Everyone at HFS is looking forward to a very busy term, with a lot to do in a relatively short period of time.

Reporting of student absenteeism

HFS has now standardised the reporting of student absences. All future reports will record the number of actual student attendances against the total number of attendances for that term. There will be no discrimination between absences due to sickness or those requested by families. I hope this will provide clarity and consistency of information for our parents.

Reporting of student attainment for Term Two

As I have already mentioned, Term Two is relatively short in terms of contact days for the students and this means HFS has reviewed its reporting practices for this term only.

Because of the length of this term, teachers would need to begin writing reports after our students had been back in school for only five or six weeks, which means teachers would have little meaningful curriculum information to report in addition to that provided in the Term One reports. Consequently, an interim report card consisting of Term Two’s assessment results and a teacher comment will be sent home at the end of this term. A full, oral report of student progress will be given at the Term Two parent / teacher conference on Wednesday 29th March.

Families who will be leaving at the end of Term Two may request a full academic report. However, any request for a full report must be made, as far as possible, before Friday 3rd February.

Notice for leaving HFS

Families who are leaving our school are requested to provide at least seven days notice of their intended leaving date. This will allow the collation of any documentation and the settling of final accounts by the school’s administration office. Please contact the office directly with any queries at admin@hyundaiforeignschool.com. Thank you very much in advance for your cooperation with this matter.

Kind regards,
