November, 2016 – Term 1 Week 12

Futsal

A message from Mr Moss;

After a long, long day a happy group of HFS students returned home from the SKAC Middle School Futsal Tournament with plenty to cheer about.

After only two practices and having never played a competitive match before, the girls team did themselves proud, and even though they lost all their three matches, they played with a lot of heart, and improved in every match (especially when Mr. Munden changed the formation in their final match). Unfortunately they were placed in a tough group, and had to face much more experienced  and older teams. Providing that they can “kick on” from this they will make further improvements, and be a force in the months to come.

In the Boys tournament all teams were seeded in terms of experience and age, so we were spared the “big guns” until the knockout phase of the competition. They did ever so well in finishing as group winners following two wins and a draw, but then succumbed to a very good BIFS team in the second round. However, we played some excellent football, and it really was a sterling team effort, and we defied all expectations. I would like to single out Andrei  Lovu for his stellar performances, and admiral leadership. Special mention must also go to Connor Blackman for scoring twelve goals during the tournament.

Well done to all and thanks to Mr. Munden for his efforts, particularly when he salvaged our team canopy which was no match for a particularly strong gust of wind  and “took off” ten metres down the field!

School Bus

Please note the bus schedule will change slightly starting next week. On a Wednesday the bus has been leaving from school at 12:30. Due to the time for children to get to the bus on this day being shorter than the rest of the week and therefore children missing the bus, that time will now be changed to 12:35 pm each Wednesday. Please also let the office know, or remind your older children to let the office or Ms Duri know if they will not be taking the bus on a day when they usually would be.

Gifts

A short reminder that absolutely no gifts can be accepted by teachers. This includes home baking and gifts under 30 000. If your children would like to do something kind, we suggest making a card or writing a letter. We hope this law will be changed in the future but for now we must remain strict. If your child brings a gift to school it will be returned with a letter explaining this. We hope to avoid this uncomfortable situation and appreciate your cooperation.

Principal Update

Our new Principal Tony Blacklock has received his visa documents which were previously delayed. This means the visa process has begun. Mr Blacklock is keenly awaiting the chance to join the HFS team and has reconfirmed his enthusiasm and commitment to the school. We will keep you updated as soon as we have further news.

Assessments

Main school are currently carrying out assessments at all levels. These results combined with other information will be visible on school reports due out at the end of the term.

School Counselor

We have a school counselor joining us next week, Ms Jennifer Garmon. Ms Garmon will come in to talk to all the students and let them know about what her role is next week and will then be available Tuesday lunchtimes starting 22nd November. Please fill out the permission slip which will be posted on the main school page next week. More details will be provided alongside this.

Parent Consultation

Please note the Community Forum scheduled for November 22nd will be postponed to a later date after the Principal has arrived.

Class trips

F1 and F2 class trips will be next Wednesday November 16th. Details are available on the EYC webpage.

Have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing all your children’s bright and happy faces on Monday.

The next scheduled newsletter will be 25th November.
